Mallori's English Conversation Method
I will either meet with you on Zoom, Skype or Google Hangouts for the "Free Language Evaluation". This is a time where we will meet to discuss all your language needs and develop a plan for your lessons.
For conversational lessons, I cater the learning process to your specific needs. However, I do have my own method that I have seen work successfully for many of my clients that want to decrease their accents.
I use the following method:
For conversational lessons, I cater the learning process to your specific needs. However, I do have my own method that I have seen work successfully for many of my clients that want to decrease their accents.
I use the following method:
- We will begin our studies with 3 conversational lessons, 1 hour long each, where I will email you a list of common conversation starter questions and ask you the questions during the lesson. This will help develop your English reading, speaking and listening skills. This will also allow us to become more familiar with each other, which will in turn make you feel more comfortable speaking English and develop your confidence.
- Upon completion of the conversation lessons, we will then move on to learning about phonetics (proper English pronunciation). I will email you a list of phonetic rules that we will discuss together. After learning the pronunciation rules, we will then move on to learning how to properly pronounce vowel and vowel blend sounds, vowel sounds with "R", consonant sounds, consonant blend sounds and silent letters. These exercises will increase your English vocabulary and give you the skills to properly pronounce words which will in turn make you a more proficient speaker.
- After the above exercises are completed, you will find that your English speaking level has increased and we can then move on to learning about American idioms. Idioms are words with figurative meanings that are used commonly in certain cultures/countries. Learning common American idioms will allow you to improve your conversation ability with native speakers and also learn more English vocabulary.
- For future lessons, we will learn ways to decrease your accent when speaking English and how to properly understand and apply American grammar to your everyday conversation and writing.
- For beginning students, I recommend taking 3 classes each week, every other day of the week for 1 hour a day. However, it is ultimately your decision about how many classes you can take. I will always try and find a time to meet that fits your schedule. I try and be as flexible as possible with meeting times.
